What to do about chronic nasal congestion?!

Question: What to do about chronic nasal congestion.?
My husband and I are having severe problems with nasal congestion. We have been using nasal sprays for about a month now. The label says not to use it for more then three days but we can't breathe through our noses. There are several things that could be causing this problem. We sleep with a fan every night but we don't point it towards us and it is kept on a low speed. We are also concerned that maybe we have a roof leak and that maybe mildew is causing this congestion. What are your thoughts about this and what do you think we should do.? By the way, my husband has always had this problem but it has never been this severe. Before we got married I didn't sleep with a fan and never had nasal congestion unless I was sick. Since we have been married it seems like it has gotten worse for me over the years. Is it just the fan or do we have other bigger problems like mold spores or something.? I'm really concerned because in the last couple of weeks I've had severe sores in my nose. Please help.Health Question & Answer

You need to try a couple of things. First, you should not have sores in your nose. It sounds like there is a mold issue, too. First link is to purchase this Humidity monitor from radio shack. Your humidity should be comfortable, not wet or dry. Second link is for Damp Rid, which you can purchase at any store, including walmart and target. Get the damp rid bucket, follow the instructions, and every night check for the amount of moisture being pulled out of the air. I suspect it is alot.

Sorry, but the fan needs to go. However, you can replace it with a HEPA Hunter Air Purifier Fan. Works a miracle! also, do you have carpet.? If so, get a roomba and run the little guy everyday! Get one that you can schedule, and schedule it for daily cleaning in your bedroom. It runs itself, you schedule it once, then clean the rollers out. It will pull all of the fuzz out. also, you probably need to dust the ceiling fan blades. Dust can gather on that too. How old is your house.? If it is more than 30 years old, that could be the problem. Have you considered moving to a newer home.? Even if it is smaller and more costly, it could save your physical health.

Sounds like there is something not right with your environment and I would have that fixed. In the meantime, try this...take a normal breath in, half breathe out...and hold your nose. Walk around your dining table or lounge (still holding your nose and your breath.) until you get the urge to breathe. Remove your fingers from your nose...keep your mouth closed...cover your mouth with your fingers..and take a few breaths THROUGH YOUR NOSE. See if this helps to unblock the nose. If it does..go and see a Buteyko Breathing practitioner and go on a program. You might be mouth breathers and are breathing in the allergens which is causing the nasal congestion (as an immune response to the mouth breathing.) Good luck.Health Question & Answer
