Would these be signs of pneumonia or something else?!

Question: Would these be signs of pneumonia or something else.?
I'm asthmatic and was sent to the hospital last week . During the attack, it felt like my lower right side and upper chest were SQUEEZING so tight, not giving me relief. Been treated with nebs, cortisone shot, prednisone, and just started an antibiotic. Been VERY weak, sore and achy the past week. It's lessened but whenever I'm up and about, the fatigue comes back.

After numerous doctor visits, the doctor said she didn't like the sound of my lower lungs so she sent me for a chest xray. I have been experiencing a dull pain on my lower right side / back that comes and goes. No cough or fever. Just chest soreness, aches and extreme fatigue.

Would these be signs of pneumonia or something else.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It could be pneumonia, but could also be pleurisy. Pleurisy is when the lining around your lungs becomes inflamed and causes painful breathing as the different layers rub against each other, and is normally a symptom of an underlying problem. Some causes of pleurisy are: viral infection, bacterial infection, pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the lung) or tumors in the pleura (lining of your lungs). With pleurisy, the doctor can hear the 2 layers of the pleura rubbing against each other, which may be the reason that she "didn't like the sound." They have similar symptoms, but when I have had pneumonia I have developed cough and fever. When I had pleurisy, I did not.

On a side note, if you aren't breathing effectively due to the pain in your lower chest, your lungs aren't able to properly expel toxins and you are more likely develop pneumonia, that is if you haven't already. Drink plenty of water, lay on the painful side (in this case, your right) and if you must cough, press a pillow against the chest wall for support. also, try alternating hot/cold therapy. Use an ice pack on your side for 15 minutes and switch that out with a heating pad for the same amount of time. Lastly, as often as you can, sit up, breathe deeply for a couple of breaths, and cough once or twice to expel any germs getting cozy in the bottom of your lungs to ward off the possibility of pneumonia. Hope that helps, and that you feel better soon!Health Question & Answer

It's possible you could have pneumonia. It'll be confirmed by the chest x-ray, and possibly white blood cell count if you had bloodwork drawn.Health Question & Answer
