Is it normal to feel like you're on the verge of losing your mind if you have untreated hypothyroid?!

Question: Is it normal to feel like you're on the verge of losing your mind if you have untreated hypothyroid.?
I think I've had hypothyroid for the past 2 years or even 3, I am 20 now, I have suffered sudden onset of hypothyroid symptoms starting 2 years ago and frightening mental sluggishness and change in personality. I should have gotten treatment sooner but I blamed it all on myself, didn't know that these were symptoms.

I've been reading notebooks from when I was 16-18 and I had more mental clarity then and even intelligence than I do now. It is scaring the hell out of me. I am going for further blood tests tomorrow but it's pretty much certain that I have hypothyroid according to my doctor. I am worried that I will not fully recover when I start treatment, as it has been so long.? Can someone help me.? Is 3 years long enough to sustain permanent damage.?Health Question & Answer

Hi. It's definitely not to late to get treatment. If you go on Thyroid medicine, you will start to notice improvement in a few weeks, and should feel a lot better in a few months. I was suicidal before i got diagnosed, and felt like i was going crazy, it was pretty scary. I felt better after a few weeks on medication. It usually takes a while to get the right dosage, but in the meantime you will get relief from your symptoms. Good luck, hope you feel better soon, hugs :-)Health Question & Answer
