Recent kidney infection, now possible hypochondriac.?!

Question: Recent kidney infection, now possible hypochondriac..?
I had a serious case of pyelonephritis about two months ago, leading to hospitalization and all that fun stuff. I finished the pills at home and checked in with my primary doctor, and since the symptoms had vanished he said I was A-OK. I felt that my flanks (where your kidneys are, roughly) were sensitive for some time after that, but figured I was just paying too much attention to the area after all the pain from before. Now, however, I feel the same sensitivity (not really painful, just... awareness), my energy is severely low, I am always thirsty, etc...

Am I just getting weighed down by school and work (being a hypochondriac), or is this actually something to be concerned about.?Health Question & Answer

The problem with inflammatory kidney disease is that it tends to come back. I would not ignore for one minute any symptom that could be heralding the onset of a recurrence. You should be seeing a nephrologist, not your family doctor, for something this serious. and it angers me that your family doctor did not refer you to begin with. Get an appointment to see a nephrologist asap. You are NOT a hypochondriac...and your body is telling you to get medical treatment.Health Question & Answer

I'm sure you're fine. I mean, you were sick not that long ago with a serious illness, so I'm sure you just still recuperating in a way. Don't worry too much. :)Health Question & Answer

If you are having any symptoms of Urinary Track Infection, burning, dark urine, unable to go or go to much, then you are probably just paying to much attention to the area where you had all the pain. Women are more suseptable to infections there than men because the uretha going to the bladder is shorter in women. If you want to try this, you will not have another infection if you faithfully do this every day. Put about 6 to 8 ounces of water in a glass and add a tablespoon or tablespoon and a half of Heinz Apple Cider Vinegar (Best Vinegar) to the water, stir then drink it straight down. You may do this three times a day for a couple of days, then start once a day in the morning. If you take a straight tablespoon of the vinegar about a half hour before meals, it will cut down your fat intake. It's good for dry itchy skin. Take some of the white vinegar, pour some into a paper towel and spread it where your legs are dry and itchy. If your hands become dry, cup one hand and put some white vinegar in and then rub it on your hands like as if you were washing them. You'll be surprised how smooth your hands will be. White vinegar doesn't have the smell of apple cider and it disapates quickly. Sorry, I just threw those in due to winter coming and dry itchy skin is always a problem with a lot of people. If you get an infection in the urinary track, vinegar will clear it. So drink lots of fluids, from water to Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice, which will keep you flushed out. Take the glass of water and vinegar every day, and you should be just fine. Works for me. Wishing you the very best young lady and may you never have another bout like you just had. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

Pyelonephritis is some serious stuff. It can make you very very sore in a lot of places. We're so lucky today that we can clear this kind of thing up right away with antibiotics.

But clearing it up doesn't mean you're healed. You've done some damage to your body, not just the kidneys. Once the infection is dealt with it will take you a while to heal, to repair the damage. Maybe weeks or months.

It's a shock to the system. You won't feel 'right' for a while. And that's okay. You will feel better week by week or day by day, but it will take a while before you're completely back to normal.

Just try to take it easy, get some gentle exercise (walking is good, or a little swimming--don't overdo it!), get some rest, take it easy on your body, and you will get better. But you don't expect to get over something like this overnight.Health Question & Answer
