What can I do about a Stomach Virus?!
Question: What can I do about a Stomach Virus.?
My brother (17) has a stomach virus. Is there anything I can do to make him feel better.? Should he drink a lot of fluids, is it safe for him to eat.? Health Question & Answer
Answers:
He should drink lots of fluids. Orange juice would probably upset his stomach, but water, gatorade, and ginger ale or 7Up would help. Soup is good: tomato (made with water, not milk- avoid dairy products), chicken noodle, vegetable. Even plain chicken broth is good. He can eat a few crackers, if he can keep them down. Just don't give him anything fatty, spicy, or heavy.
Don't give him anything to stop diarrhea, because that would make the virus stay in his intestines longer. If he has a fever, he can take tylenol or ibuprofen; tylenol might be easier on his stomach. Let him get plenty of rest.
If he gets very dehydrated, he should go to the hospital. Signs of this would be if he gets lethargic (very, very sleepy and out of it) or if he can't pee. Usually this kind of thing will clear up on its own as long as he takes in enough fluids, though.
Make sure you wash your hands a lot; that's the best way to prevent yourself from catching it from him.Health Question & Answer
