Are childrens blood sugar levels different from adults?!

Question: Are childrens blood sugar levels different from adults.?
Answers:
I have 2 kids that are diabetics. Growing up the doctor told me that their blood sugars are the same as an adults. A child with NO diabetes should be 70 to 100 fasting and 70 to 120 2 hours after a meal. A diabetic child's blood sugar ranges are the same as an adults ranges..90 to 180 fasting and 140 to 235 2 hours after a meal. These readings are from a very prominent endocrinologist in the south east
Health Question & Answer

Not significantly. Children are SLIGHTLY higher.

Blood sugar is one of the best studied conditions of the body. The values are well know for all sexes, ages, and races.

A NORMAL value is 80-120, with about 100 be a good "target" value.

But blood sugar varies throughout the day, from minute to minute, depending on when, what, and how much you ate, as well as some internal factors.

If your child has JUST eaten birthday cake and ice cream, the blood sugar will be very high, like 300-400. This will cause the pancreas to kick in and start to produce insulin.

After about 30 minutes, the sugars will drop lower, maybe to around 200.

But the GOAL is after TWO HOURS, the blood sugars should be "high-normal", like 110-130.

Now, if instead of cake he eats a chicken breast and drinks water, the blood sugar will rise to only about 150-175. STILL, the GOAL is a "normal" reading after 2 hours.

After 8-10 hours of no food (like first thing in the morning, just before breakfast) the bloods sugars should be "low-normal", like 80-100.

SOOOooo....
it is CRITICAL that the TIMING of the blood test be correct, AND it takes into consideration WHAT was eaten.

Blood sugar tests should be taken immediately BEFORE meals, 2 hours after meals (no sooner!) and once before bedtime.

But more importantly, if your child is not a known diabetic, parents shouldn't be making these tests at all. Diabetes can be diagnosed ONLY through proper blood tests done by a doctor.

If you are concerned about the possibility of your child having diabetes, ask the doctor to do an A1C test, and discuss the results with you.

This method is FAR more accurate (and less fearful) than taking random "finger stick" tests.Health Question & Answer

i think so because children seem to have a lot more energy and they eat more sweets which will give them a blood sugar level plus they need to grow Health Question & Answer

yes, as the children are growing there sugar levels start reducing from what they were and what they needed to grow!Health Question & Answer
