I THINK I HAVE SYMTOMS OF PTSD?!

Question: I THINK I HAVE SYMTOMS OF PTSD.?
I served in Iraq about 5 years ago. I had a really hard time when I was there but alot of it wasn't documented because we were in maneuvers. I seen some things I thought wouldn't affect me but now it seems I was wrong. I been having nightmares and cant sleep at night. Not to mention I have high blood pressure which was documented I before I seperated. Im also having problems showing up in time for work because Im only able to fall asleep an hour or two before I have to go to work. Im constantly checking my home for intruders and cant hold on to relationships. Im having major anger issues on my job. Ive been to the VA but I haven't been evaluated. I separated from the army 4 years ago and since then Ive still been having these problems. I just didn't want to go to the VA because I thought I was ok. But now its getting worse because my jobs really in jeopardy. What should I do.?Health Question & Answer

Please go back to the VA and get evaluated. My husband works with those that have PTSD, helping them getting disability from the VA and learning about this horrible thing that can also cause you to have physical as well as mental problems. He has a very severe case of PTSD himself from Viet Nam and has been helping other vets for about 15 years. Go to your local VFW and have them get you a sponsor. This person will be by your side and help you go through everything you have to do to validate your PTSD. They know who to contact and how to fill out all the paper work. Some of the symptoms of PTSD include, spousal abuse, alcohol and drug abuse, paranoia,(sometimes extreme) fear of crowds, not being able to have a good relationship with girlfriends, spouse, or children, seclusion, anger issues, and many other symptoms. It can show up quickly, or take years, and many have it and don't realize it, they just chalk it up to something else. It can lead to serious depression and some become suicidal. Get help NOW...it is nothing to be ashamed of, almost every person that has served in a war zone has PTSD to some extent. It can also cause physical problems such as severe muscle aches and migraines. Please go for help now......Health Question & Answer

you should probably go back to the VA and get, evaluated. that would be the sensible thing to do it seems like you probably do have it. im sorry to hear it good luck and thanks for your serviceHealth Question & Answer

Go to the VA hospital asap. The VA doctors are trained to evaluate and treat you for PTSD.
Work with a veterans service organization like VFW or DAV to help you file a claim for service connection.
If you can't get an appointment quickly at VA, see a private therapist or your civilian family doctor.
For now - Have you tried over the counter sleep medications.? Try taking Tylenol "Just Sleep" about two hours before bed time. It knocks me out and I sleep well and wake up refreshed. Maybe things will get a little better if you can get some sleep.Health Question & Answer
