My Girlfriend was diagnosed with a Kidney infection 4 weeks ago but has got progressively worse....?!

Question: My Girlfriend was diagnosed with a Kidney infection 4 weeks ago but has got progressively worse.....?
She seen a doctor 4 weeks ago as she was in severe pain and got prescribed antibiotics. They eased it but 2 weeks later she was sorse than ever so went to see the doc's again. He took samples and prescribed the same antibiotic but a stronger dose. 4 days ago she said she had pains in her ankle, yesterday she had pains in her legs and now she has pains in her legs and arms.

She is so pig headed and tries to pretend everything she is OK and hates seeking medical advise. I'm really worried about her like. Is this serious or what.?.?Health Question & Answer

This could be signs of lupus (not saying it is) plus she has pains in arms and legs kidney infection she could become anemia, have fevers, fatigued,or have kin rashes. have a UTIs. She needs a complete blood work but then on the other hand maybe from something else. Since the meds didn't work for first testing There is another reason for her condition she needs to go see another doctor and its best for her health.Health Question & Answer

Yes, this can be extremely serious. She could be headed for renal shut down if she does not see her doctor again....she may need to be hospitalized. Some kidney infections can be very hard to clear up, and require strong antibiotics for a long period of time. Make sure she takes them the way she should be. Infections like this have cause people to go on dialysis and have kidneys removed because of such bad damage, and if it is effecting both kidneys, it can lead to complete renal shut down, which means she could have to stay on dialysis the rest of her life, and need a kidney transplant. Kidney infections are nothing to take lightly or play around with. Her leg pain is most likely a side effect of the antibiotics, but on the other hand, may be from toxins in the body that the kidneys are not getting rid of.....Health Question & Answer

It certainly could be, the doc will have taken samples to do cultures with to see what is causing the infection, if anti biotics haven't been working it could be a bacteria that is in the kidneys and passing to uninary tract that is resistant to certain anti biotics,
She could certainly try increasing her intake of water whilst she is on anti biotics to try and flush her system,
The pain in her legs and ankles could be entirely unrelated but its worth checking out and i would recommend getting back in touch with her docs or try giving NHS direct (NHS 24 in Scotland) a ring just to check this out,

I hope this helps and i hope she feels better soon

Okay, is your Girlfriend taking Ciprofloxacin.? I know that when I get a kidney infection that is what I am prescribed first. One of the side effects of this stuff is tendon damage.I started having severe ankle pain after taking it. If it is another antibiotic, try looking up the side effects.

If her symptoms are from the medicine, she needs to tell her doctor and have it changed. If it isn't she should still tell the doctor just to be sure the infection hasn't spread or something.

I hope she gets better.Health Question & Answer

I think it's serious enough to have it checked out by a medical professional. Just tell her that you're worried about her and you'd appreciate it if she went to the doctor for further information.Health Question & Answer
