First of all, cold sores are caused by the virus known as herpes simplex type I or HSV! not "from herpes"
I found out that a cold sore is a virus of herpes simplex 1 at the same time I learned about HIV-AIDS when I was 19yo. I was in my first year in college attending a health awareness fair. There were posters of patients with HSV1 and HSV2. The posters were so horrifying that I think I swore I will never kiss again and will be a virgin for life.

First of all, cold sores aren't FROM herpes, they are a form of herpes.
Second of all, I found out some time in middle school, I believe.
Oh, and lastly, don't EVERRRR perform oral sex one someone while you have a cold sore (or receive it from someone who has one) because that can give you genital herpes.Health Question & Answer

9 years old in 1974. In those days, my parents thought it was my fault from licking my lips. The doctor prescribed Neosporin..which of course did nothing. The friendly doc also showed me pictures in a medical journal of a kid whose whole face was covered with sores. Talk about scaring a kid witless!!!
So I have been living with cold sores for a looongg time. And I cannot imagine having those bad boys down south...what a misery that has got to be.

Ummmm about.....8th grade.?.? Yes, and during an outbreak, if you give someone oral, they can get the genital kind. I don't have either THANK GOD.
