Here's a link to instructions on how to properly irrigate the nasal passages from the Mayo Clinic:

It simply lists salt and shows a container that looks similar to the containers in which you buy regular table salt. It says that if you are sensitive to iodine, then use non-iodized table salt.Health Question & Answer

I use the Neti Pot (or Jala Neti), the links below can give you more details on it works and a video to show you how to use it, you can buy it from them. It really helps me when I get the flu or a cold. If you have allergies it can really help as well, it cleans everything out easy. It is a bit strange the first few times but you get used to it quick. The main thing is to get the water to salt ratio right or it can burn a little.
In places like South Asia people use the Neti Pot like we use toothbrushes!
Hope that all helps, good luck!

Are you talking about rinsing your nose, as in irrigating it.?
I would strongly advise against using ANY saltwater for that. Hydrogen peroxide is what's recommended. Salt water is for your throat.
If you feel that you really want to use salt water, then yes - mix table salt with water.Health Question & Answer

You're better off using canning/pickling salt which is pretty inexpensive--regular salt can sting. If you use hydrogen peroxide, dilute it...btw, a recent study showed saline irrigation is as effective as prescription steroidal nasal sprays.Health Question & Answer
