Hi
Perthes is a childhood condition, but the damage it does to our bodies is permanent and can affect us for the rest of our lives.
Generally the damage left by perthes includes a mis-shapen femoral head (the ball part of the joint) and a widened and shortened femoral neck.
I set up a site where you can find out a lot about perthes - what it does, how it does it, what the treatments & therapies are and a fairly comprehensive glossary of the medical terms - see the link below.
There are support groups out there for families with a child with perthes, also for adults who had perthes as a child - look at the 'online information & support' page on my site and find a group that you feel would help, like adult perthes survivors.
