The reason you are very unmotivated is you have no neurotransmitters. The chemicals in cigarettes drain nutrients from your body and replace your normal neurotransmitters so your body stops making them. When you stop smoking, then you don't have any.

Since both nutrients and neurotransmitters are what produce pleasure and happy good feelings, when someone stops smoking, there is pain and lack of energy until the body repairs itself. The same is true when someone stops drinking. When you stop smoking or drinking, or any other drug, you go into "shock" because your nerves don't have their favorite drugs to help them feel good anymore. The drugs neurotransmitters are more powerful than the normal ones, which is why tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs or substances can be addictive. They replace natural neurotransmitters with stronger drug replacements that give an immediate 'feedback' kick of pleasure. This is why people like to drink, smoke, coffee, etc.

When you quit smoking, your nerves are starved for neurotransmitters. How do you sooth these shattered nerves.? You can jump-start your system to begin making it's own by eating nutritious food and pampering yourself to let your body repair itself and start making it's own natural neurotransmitters again.

1. Nerve Damage. Your liver and lungs are working hard clearing out years of sludge. Maybe try some omega 3's (4-6 capsules fish oil or flax seed oil/day) to prevent depression (build nerve tissues) and improve energy.

2. A good multivitamin if you are not already, will support tissue repair and replace all the vitamins and minerals you lost trying to detoxify all those toxins in cigarettes. Low levels of vitamins and minerals will affect your mood, so give yourself a break and take a multivitamin.

3. Pampering. 8 hours of sleep at night will replenish melatonin and help you feel refreshed. Drink plenty of water, walk a little, get some sunshine every day. Laugh and have fun. Don't trade addictions such as drinking, overeating or compulsive behaviors instead of smoking-- what's the point.?

4. Liver and Inflammation: Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) has been shown in peer-reviewed reputable journals by clinical trial to support liver detoxification and defibrolinic activity, which means repair scar tissue in the lungs and inflammation the smoking has caused. The liver is likely detoxifying cigarette smoke and could use this help. Don't go overboard and take more than is recommended. Take the correct dose. Read for side-effects and if you have any, stop taking it.

You can do it!Health Question & Answer

Try to stay busy with work. Keep your mind off of smoking by being busy. Take the time to excercise, even if it is just a walk around your neighborhood for an hour each day. This is what has worked for my husband. He quit cold turkey almost six months ago when he had a heart attack, and ended up in the hospital. We were out walking and he had an energy drink then smoked a cigarette.... not cool at all ! Then, came severe chest pain. He had two stents put in, but they are not working well, and will have a bypass (open heart surgery) in the spring. His heart damage is from years of smoking. Please stay off those cigarettes and add years to your life my friend. Good health requires some effort on your part.Health Question & Answer

you have exactly the same problem as me, i have become lazy since i gave up, so much so that it has become a problem. I think its because if we had to go and do something before we would have a smoke first then go and do the taskHealth Question & Answer

dude, keep up the momentum. Your will power alone will save your life. Trust me, I've been smoke free for over a month. I don't even think about it anymore. Well, actually only when I see someone smoke or smell someone who smokes.Health Question & Answer
