I always have protected sex! but the doctor says i could have herpes?!

Question: I always have protected sex! but the doctor says i could have herpes.?
for three days i have been feeling a itchy irritation followed by some burning and i would take my washcloth (instead of my hands) to rub it for some relief-however i wash my external vagina with irish spring soap so the burning became Little more bothersome and two days ago i had protected sex with my bf and the irritation became worse after sex- when i went to the doctor he told me i had an vaginal infection and i may have herpes also because i have a sore down there on my skin when he examined me. but the problem is how could i have herpes.? if i always have protected sex and i haven't had any oral sex.? also i am 28 weeks prego so i know my skin is extra sensitive, i also ask him could it be anything else he says no-but then he tells me that never to use irish spring because it is too strong and it can cause irritation. but i do remember reading about my vaginal infection and that caused the itchiness in the 1st place. could the soap irritated me so much for me to rub my dry washcloth against my external area (alot) and caused the bumpy like thing.? please help-my doctor is also known to scare his patients. Doctors always assume the worst case possible because they see it so much.. but I would not think It is herpes i think herpes it usually not painful or itchy.. it sounds like just a vaginal infection, something that is very common during pregnancy.. also you said the soap irratated you so just switch to a more mild soap such as doveHealth Question & Answer

How did you get pregnant if you never had unprotected sex.?Health Question & Answer

Using a condom does not protect you from herpes. It is spread through skin to skin contact and a condom doesn't cover every area.
I would definitely get a blood test to see if you've had herpes (if it is herpes) for awhile or if its new, especially since you are pregnant. If you have an "established infection" (meaning you have antibodies), your IGG score will be higher. If its new you won't have IGG antibodies but only IGM antibodies (these develop in a new infection and everytime you have an outbreak). If it is herpes and your first outbreak, your doctor should be more concerned because you don't have antibodies.Health Question & Answer
