Hi

If the infection occurs at the genital site , then its possible there is pus forming. Pus formation is a part of the innate immune response as you might know .

At the site of infection , macrophages , triggered by cytokines migrate there to engulf the foreign microorganism , the activation of macrophages further trigger more cytokines release which mediate the migration of neutrophils through chemotaxis. The neutrophils then also try to engulf the bacteria and eventually die. Macrophages then engulf the dead neutrophils which contain the dead bacteria , break the cells down, producing pus, which is a viscous material composed of dead neutrophils ( and fragments of dead bacteria possibly as well). It is thought that hypochlorus acid produced inside the neutrophil when a pathogen is phagocytosed is effectively bactericidal enough. However this has not been concluded.

It is totally possible for the gram negative gonococco to escape the destruction of neutrophils. Depends on each individual immune system , it is said that the complement system plays an important role in fighting the disease. C5 to C9 can form membrane attack complexes that fight against the infection. However , it is not quite sure if once engulfed by neutrophils and undergone killing of the phagosomal enzymes , the bacteria can still survive. The only thing i can think of is the innate immune response does not always clean all invaders.Health Question & Answer
