Sounds like throat or esophageal cancer. My brother-in-law is going through the same thing and yes, your ability to eat "normally" will begin to return. Tom started eating semi-solid type foods (jello, pudding, clear broths, and similar things) within a week or so. A lot will depend on how you feel.

I have been told that since food doesn't taste very good after the treatments, the only thing good about being able to eat again is that it is like being "normal" again.
