When you have a cold you are told to avoid dairy, BUT...?!

Question: When you have a cold you are told to avoid dairy, BUT....?
I know that the reason to do this is because milk from cows creates a mucus lining over your tongue, worsening the symptoms.
But what bout milks of plant origin.? Like soy, almond and rice milk, does the rule still apply.?
I have a cold, don't drink cows milk is it still the same rule.? ThanksHealth Question & Answer

I don't think it creates enough of a problem unless you are immuno-compromised. In other words, unless you have some sort of immune disorder, then drinking milk shouldn't be a big deal, I've never had a problem with it, but I also have a healthy and functioning immune system.Health Question & Answer

When my son was a toddler he was regularly getting ear infections. The health nurse said to lay off dairy to see if it's mucus filling the little ear tube then getting infected. I swapped him to soy milk and he hasn't had a sore ear since (he's now 12). So I'd say it's only the dairy that's the problem.Health Question & Answer
