The heart "tickling" sound like heart palpitations...and if you have a nodule on your thyroid (which is an organ behind your esophagus), you could have hyperthyroidism which causes heart palps. The only ways to know for sure are to ask your doctor for blood work - have the Dr. check your TSH (Thyroid Stimulation Hormone) and ask if it could be a nodule on your thyroid - the Dr. should be able to feel it and know. If you have recently been to the Dr., just call and ask for the blood work and you'll have the results a few days after the test. The nodule could be causing your discomfort in swallowing and because it's so close to your trachea, could also be causing you to get fluids into the wrong pipe and coughing.

The treatment is usually to first get get your thyroid to slow down in producing the hormone, which will stop the heart tickles, and may shrink the nodule a bit. They may also give you iodine treatments to shrink the nodule...that is if its your throid. Get the test done!

Good luck.Health Question & Answer

I agree with eringrach.... except that palpatations are very different from a tickling sensation, and most people experiencing it would describe it as it is, being conscious of their own heartbeat. High thyroxine hormones do cause palpatations though.

What confuses me, though, is why your GP did not suspect your thyroid, though.Health Question & Answer
