How common is Whooping cough after vaccine?!

Question: How common is Whooping cough after vaccine.?
Just need to know if anyone experienced their baby having Whooping cough even after they were vaccinated and how did you know he/she had it.? What were the signs that made you call the doctor and what exactly did the cough sound like.? My 5 month old has had a cough for a couple weeks now. Its a really phlemy productive cough and she occasionally gasps in between the coughing spells when its happening. Yesterday she started to get a low grade fever and same with today. When I try and look stuff on the interent about a cough in babies, everything is comming up Whooping cough, but shes been vaccinated.
Any helpful suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS..I have contacted the doctor and they told me to keep an eye on her and call on Monday. Health Question & Answer

You will get a different answer on the efficacy of the whooping cough immunization depending on which study you look at. However, one thing that is certain is that the pertussis (whopping cough) immunization is one of the least effective. One study found the efficacy rate as low as 50%. All three of my children had whooping cough several years ago including my four month old daughter. For my infant, it was very serious and she was hospitalized two different times. When she would start to cough, the coughing would go on without a break for close to a minute. Her face would turn blue and after she was done coughing, she would almost always vomit. She was actually losing weight because she was unable to keep the breastmilk down. It was a totally dry cough and it would never just last a few seconds like you find with a cold. She would gasp for air after she was done coughing, but I never heard the whooping sound that the disease is named after. The cough lasted for a total of about six weeks and was at its worst for about two weeks.

I called the doctor right away when she developed such a bad cough. I even told the doctor that I thought she had whooping cough. My doctor totally blew me off and I had to insist on the test. He did it only to appease me. The test is a nasal swab and takes four days for the results. When I received a positive result, she was immediately put in the hospital to be monitored. Good luck to you and I hope this information helps.Health Question & Answer
