How can I get my brother to start carrying his epipen?!

Question: How can I get my brother to start carrying his epipen.?
He has severe allergic reactions to a lot of different foods and spices.
I remember once when we were 12, he somehow ate something at a resturant that he was allergic to and his throat completely closed up and he started itching all over and breaking out in these bumps. He fell on the floor because he couldn't breathe.

Thats how bad it gets for him.
Whenever we go to school or a resturant or anything he always forgets his epipen. Now I have started carrying it for him to school and I usually keep it in my backpack.
When I ask him to take it with him he is just like
"No, I'll be careful. I haven't had a problem in a while"
but he can die if he eats some things.
I'm scared when we have a swimming competition he is going to get stung by something and not have his epipen.

How can I get him to take it.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Not only does he need to be carrying it, he needs to have a med alert necklace or bracelet or tattoo with a caduceus and his allergies listed like I have! (gluten intolerance, codeine allergy).
It could be embarrassing for him, but so is dying in front of a lot of people (rolls eyes). He also needs to have a few extra people that are around him be ready and trained to use the epipen should they need to.
It is time you tell your parents that he isn't carrying it with him (they probably think he is) and you all need to sit him down and have an "intervention" style meeting with him. If necessary you can ask his doctor to also have a talk with him. He probably thinks that because he hasn't had any issue with it recently he is over it or no longer needs it. Waiting for a histamine reaction to prove this wrong is not an option. Additional allergy testing and a talk with his doctor may be all that can convince him that he really needs to carry it with him at all times!

It does look kind of dumb hanging from your neck, i have a friend who carries his from his neck and walks around school. And it's too big for your pocket but you need it handy. Unless he just keeps it in his backpack and tells his friends it's in there in case of emergency then they would be able to get it for him.. But he may not always be with his friends. He's just going to have to suck it up and wear it around his neck, what's more important; life,or being cool.?Health Question & Answer

You may have to sit him down and be blunt. Tell him you won't carry it anymore, he's responsible for his own life and if he's not smart enough to take it with him then he shouldn't be allowed to leave the house. There will be times when you won't be around when he needs it, what is he supposed to do then.? He may be embarrassed, like someone with an inhaler is embarrased by their meds, but he doesn't have to announce to the world that he's carrying it. If he doesn't generally carry stuff and its uncomfortable in a pocket, he can get a sling pack (one of those single strap backpacks) to keep it in.
