Question: Can anyone share their experiences with a tooth that is severely decayed with hole where the cavity is.?
It started as a cavity about 1 yr.. ago.. Then about a month ago a small piece where the cavity is chipped off.. Now for the past week more small pieces have been chipping off.. I'm pretty sure that it is infected now because it hurts so badly.. I have a dentist appointment in the morning and I am wondering if it can be saved.....................?Health Question & Answer

I hope you are okay........but........i think youll find the cavity started about 3 years ago..........if it hurts so badly (esp pain with hot food) your nerve has died and you need a root canal $1000-2000..00 or get it pulled.. extraction is an easy, cheap option........people dont seem to care about teeth they cant see...... you'll need to replace the missing tooth.. cheapest way is with a denture....cause all the other teeth may eventually move into the missing spot.. bringing on the headaches, jaw pain......inability to chew........

I've got two wisdom teeth that have had large fillings (about half the exposed portion of the teeth) from years ago fall apart and come out.. I have been going without dental care, although I did see a dentist who said they could be saved, but never got around to doing it.. BTW: You should have gone to the dentist as soon as you noticed the cavity, needless to say, your dentist will re-iterate that point, I'm sure.. My guess is that you do not have an infection, you are probably just experiencing pain from the exposed innards of the tooth.. You'll soon know for sure one way or the other..Health Question & Answer

This happened to me.. If it can be saved, its hard to say, depends on if the roots are infected and rotting or not.. If it is hurting you a lot probably the best thing for them to do is yank it and replace with a false tooth(they make really good ones nowadays).. But thats obviously for the dentist(s) to tell you whats best..

Your tooth can most likely be saved by having a root canal and then a crown as long as the decay isn't below the gumline..
