Dont worry about people saying that it hurts badly.. It doesnt.. Its like recieving a normal shot anywhere else but on your gums, so it feels like its more sensitive.. The dentist will hold the injection there quite a long time to release it slowly.. It does hurt and sting a little bit at first, but after (after a few seconds)......heres the great news: your mouth becomes numb and you cant feel it anymore.. I remember I was 13 when I had to have it done.. I was terrified.. I pleaded with the dentist to not let me have it.. At the end I agreed and it hurt at first but I got over it.. I asked my mom to be in the room with me.. And the most important thing is dont stress out.. It hurts much more when you are stressed.. I dont know why.. I kept thiking of other "nice things to distract me.. Just like a random list of things.. "Puppies, ice cream, summer, the beach, cookies" whatever, It distracted me.. Plus tell your dentist how you feel so he or she can take u though the process and be more supportive of you.. When th moment comes, take three deep breaths and pluck up the courage.. It will be over faster

OH! BTW I just read about the numbing gel in an answer and I forgot to tell you, that I had that applied first.. I dont know if without it it would hurt really badly but it would hurt much more.. The put this numbing gel on your gums so that the shot doesnt hurt as much.. I truly recomend it so it hurts less.. Ask your dentist if you can please have it

Oh and another thing I just remembered.. If u are afraid of the needle, dont look at it.. Really, I picked this trick up at 10 and its worked miracles for my fear of needles.. Try it!!!

Good luck.. hope i get best answer lolHealth Question & Answer

If you are a nervous patient, the dentist can put this gel on your gums which numbs that area so that the injection wont hurt.. You will have to ask for it though as this isnt really standard in adults.. They do it for children.. I would make it clear when you make the appointment that you are very nervous and will be wanting the gel to numb the injection site..

Good luck.. I was terrified of dentists having had a bad experience in childhood too.. However, now I go reguarly and nothing hurts as much as I used to imagine!!!Health Question & Answer

It aches really, it doesn't hurt.. It's like a really bad ache for like 1-2 seconds.. And then she takes it out again and it doesn't hurt, it just goes numb

Do not worry

Think of yourself with black teeth [gross, huh.?] and then think about a tiny little injection and how much 'good' it will do you, so to speakHealth Question & Answer

Well, for me, it felt as though my gums wanted to explode because they were injecting something INto my gums.. It doesnt hurt AT ALL.. It's just a bit uncomfortable for about 2-3 seconds..Health Question & Answer

Ask for NUMBING GEL
it'll taste weird, but at least u wont feel the sting of the needle
The gel will take a couple of minutes to work, but at least it wont hurtHealth Question & Answer

That depends on the dentist.. Some will do nothing but stick you with the needle, but some use a topical ointment, sort of like anbesol, to numb the area a bit before the injection.. If you find a dentist that does that, the pain is minor, about like a shot in the arm or a needle prick for giving blood.. If you get a dentist that doesn't use the ointment the stick is a bit more intense but it only lasts for a second.. Just remember you can suffer through a needle stick or two now and get the work done.. Or you can wait until you are in severe pain from an abscess or something and have the pain from that and the needle stick.. It is well worth the preventive care to take care of your teeth now instead of later..Health Question & Answer
