I had my tongue pierced a while back, the pain sucks for the first few days, and it took about a week for the swelling to go down and back to normal (could eat normally after 4 days though).. Keep up with the betadine and also try sucking on ice...... I spent a lot of time drinking to help with the pain (white spirits, neat or with ice).. The initial barbell is longer to accomodate the swelling of the tongue, i changed mine out in about 3 weeks.. The smaller barbell made eating (and speaking) a whole lot easier.. As for removing it, the tongue heals ridiculously fast, when I had my piercing I had to take it out for a job, and in a 12 hour shift, it would start to grow over...... that's with a temporary pillar in it...... If you don't want it, remove it (and if it's a recent piercing keep using the betadine) it should heal over in a day or two..
In the mean time, jelly is good to eat, and i got by on KFC Popcorn and potato and gravy)...... most important though...... use the mouth wash..Health Question & Answer

The best would be to get it removed from the doctor who has done this....................PLEASE....PLEASE REMEMBER THAT TONGUE-PIERCING IS DANGEROUS.. So, please for Heaven's sake never indulge in such (mis)adventures..
Dont feel panicky after reading this......just approach your doctor......take some pain-killers and antibiotics, if deemed fit by your doctor and then arrgnge to get is the bell REMOVED at the earliest.. And for future also........stay away from such piercings........may be tongue, lips, navel..................all are potentially troublesome..Health Question & Answer

I see lots of young girls with tongue piercings in the practice.. If its not bleeding then you won't bleed to death.. if it hurts try some oragel and it may not hurt to get some antibiotics if it starts to swell over the next few days.. See your'e dentist if the pain increases.. move to a shorter barbell as soon as reasonable possible..

the biggest longterm threat you face is barbell design you don't want to have something that rests on the gums in front of your tongue.. A patient had a perfectly round hole in her bone created from were the ball rested against the gum.. Now she is probably going to loose this particular tooth.. too soon to tell..Health Question & Answer

I had that problem too when I got my tongue pierced.. I went back to the place where I got it done and requested a shorter barbell.. That took care of most of the discomfort.. Unfortunately, the pain is part of the process, after all you did have a portion of your tongue taken out! I used Listerine and it helped immensely.. It took about a week for it to totally heal..Health Question & Answer

you can take it out and be fine.. i think it will take you a month or two to adjust.. i had an industrial and the first month was really bad.. but later on it's worth itHealth Question & Answer
