The best is a pediatric dentist, a true licensed pediatric dentist not just someone who does see kids.. Depending on his behaviour they may or may not want to put him under, but putting him under is the easiest b/c you can get it all done at once.. At this age, he may or may not understand the importance of holding still in certain situations.. Other dentists may give a cocktail of meds and the gas, but this really isn't a big difference.. Sedation is conscious sedation which is simply an IV of a relaxant..Health Question & Answer

Know that you are dealing with highly trained professionals who know what they are doing.. If your son breaks his arm and he needs surgery and you are uncomfortable with it, would you let him get the surgery or let him suffer without an arm for the rest of his life.? This situation is very similar except on a smaller scale.. Do it and know that the people you are dealing with know what they are doing and your son will not be harmed in any way..Health Question & Answer

Try laughing gas.. I'm thinking the only reason the dentist wants to put him under is so that he will sit still for the procedure.. I would'nt want to take the risk of giving him a shot or something but then he's moving around making it very difficult to fix a cavity.. Especially with a drill in his mouth..Health Question & Answer

Try getting a second opinion first.. That happened to me before where I was told I had five cavities in six months...... when I saw another dentist she only found one.. Having cavities does not necessarily mean that all the child eats is candy........ some teeth are just more prone to cavities than others (ex.. if they are deeper grooved)..

Hope a second opinion helps!Health Question & Answer

Seven cavaties..Do you think he does..That is alot for a 21/2 year old..First maybe get a second opinion..I don't think I would want a general for him..What about a "twilight sleep"..
It all seems very extreme to me..Health Question & Answer

I don't understand why the dentist would go to so much trouble and undertake something as stressful as putting your son in hospital and under general anaesthetic when these are his baby teeth.? All that trouble and they're going to be falling out anyway ......Health Question & Answer

My sister had a very similar problem.. They put her under anesthesia and she was just fine.. They told her she was born with the problem and WASN'T HYGENE NEGLECT!!! I cant believe they would assume such a thing.. Trust them, she was fine..Health Question & Answer

They do have general anesthesia if he's not afraid of needles, so they wouldn't have to put him to sleep..Health Question & Answer
