Do you mean like a CAD/CAM or Cerec machine.? Those are when a computer actually scans your tooth and the machine mills a porcelain crown right there.. Pretty cool stuff! They have been showing clinically to have just as much success as traditional, lab-made crowns..
If you are referring to temporary crowns, those are just meant to last long enough for the lab to make the permanent one, but they are made to feel comfortable and keep the teeth and gum tissue from undergoing any change in the meantime..Health Question & Answer

The only real problem with the CAD/CAM or Cerac restorations is that they are milled from a single block of porcelain that is all the same color.. If the color doesn't match up reasonably then it could be an aesthetic problem.. Some people definitely need custom shadings done on their crowns and that can only be done the old fashioned way by a lab technician using different shades of porcelain..Health Question & Answer
I haven't known anything dental office that will do your porcelain crown right there and then.. You will have to go back within 2 weeks to put them on,but a temporary crown will be done on the spot..?Health Question & Answer
They only usually make temporary crowns on the spot.. For your actual crown, you would need to come back like a week later..Health Question & Answer
