If you do have an infection, there is an acidity level that is probably high enough to cancel out the anaesthesia given to you, because it's acid vs base so it just neutralized and is not effective.. If you are given an antibiotic, it should start working so by 48 hrs the infection will be down.. so usually you are supposed to come back a week after the pulpotomy, just to make sure the left over infection is not strong enoughto interfere with the actual root canal procedure..

If your infection isn't very bad and if the antibiotic works, then the root canal appointment will be a breeze.. Because now the dentist has cleaned out the canals, so no more nerves, and i assume he/she has put some medication inside the nerve chambers to soothe any inflammation..

Good luck =)Health Question & Answer

Hello, unfortunately your in a situation that to many patients find themselves in.. Some dental treatment plans are a matter of "See what works"......Most DDS would not want to extract a tooth they can save......by the same token, the DDS has to be smart enough to know the percentages and not put the patient through unnecessary procedures or cost.. Just be straight forward with the DDS about your concerns, if you get the "I'm the dental God and your the uneducated patient" treatment, you simply get up and leave the office and find a DDS that knows how to properly treat a patient..........As for the numbing issue, some anesthetics are faster and better than others, also there are times when there is so much infection around the tooth's nerve, numbing it is difficult by injection......Some cases like that my require general anesthetic, put the patient to sleep.. Finally, call the DDS for a pain control medication to keep you comfortable until the next appointment.. Good luck and I wish you well..Health Question & Answer

Please dont be in a hurry to get it removed..........let the Mother nature take some time to heal it.. Secondly, root canal is just an extension of this pulpotomy procedure you can say.. I trust the medicines given to you by your doctor will definitely help you in getting rid of your symptoms..

And later on when you visit your dentist for final filling, he will have a thorough look/x-ray of this question, if needed and only then decide about its fate..Health Question & Answer
