What is TMJ and how can you fix it?!

Question: What is TMJ and how can you fix it.?
It's kinda a long story but please read it.. Ok...... I was at the orthodontist with my friend (her appt..) and her father was filling out some forms and it asked about if your jaw pops.. I told him that mine does and he said I probably have TMJ.. (If this means anything...... on one side of my mouth, my top and bottom teeth dont touch..) Can I do anything about it.? Oh yeah...... and if my jaw pops alot in one day, iy starts to hurt..

TMJ refers literally to the "temporomandibular joint".. Where the lower jaw connects to your skull at your temples.. TMJ is kind of a catch all term .. It's commonly used to explain issues with the jaw not necessarily fitting well.. This could be due to asymmetry in your jaw or other issues (grinding teeth, other habits, trauma to the joint)..

There's a little disc in that joint that can slip out of place when a person opens big.. The slipping can cause that popping.. It can cause pain for sure..

If you're into chewing gum you should back way off if not stop all together.. The repetitive motion is really hard on the joint.. (Kind of like secretaries getting carpal tunnel in their hands from all the computer work they do......)..

TMJ is a jaw problem, where your jaw is being detached to it's joint, you have to consult a TMJ dentist to have it cured (or give you a surgery)......you need it badly, so don't waste any time.. be well....Health Question & Answer
