Question: Sutures--when will they dissolve.?.?
Hello there,2 molar teeth has been extracted on my left side bottom 20 days ago..They had to put sutures because thay had to open my gums to get those impacted teeth out..The doctor told me that the sutures would dissolve as time passes..But its been 20 + days and It has not dissolved yet..
can anyone tell me how long on an average will it take to get dissolved.?.?

The sutures should have broken down and dissolved about a week or so after they were put in, so you are way past time for that.. It does happen sometimes,though.. It won't take long to remove them at all, and no- it shouldn't hurt at all.. Most likely the dentist will just snip off the part above the gumline- but he can give it a slight tug to see if what's below the gums will come out.. Even had he used standard suture material, it's smooth enough to slide right out without pain.. Stitches only hurt going in, not coming out.. Just revisit your dentist..Health Question & Answer
Sometimes this does not dissolve on its own and has to be removed.. I have had three surgeries in my mouth the first two times the sutures dissolved and the last time the sutures had to be removed after three weeks because it wouldn't dissolve on it's own..Health Question & Answer
