"Spacers" for braces question?!
Question: "Spacers" for braces question.?
my orthodontist put spacers on my teeth (elastic bands between teeth)......
They are supposed to create space right.?
But...... I've noticed that my teeth r getting worse because of them...... Are my teeth supposed to do this.? Is this okay.?
And.... my next appointment is in 3 weeks...... does that seem pretty long wait.? -..-; or are spacers supposed to b kept on this long.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes they are supposed to create space in between the two teeth that they placed between.. Your other teeth might get crowded because of the spacers but they should be fixed with the braces.. That also seems about the normal time to have them on.. They have to actually move the root of your teeth and so on and as you can imagine, that might take a few weeks..Health Question & Answer

Okay, well number one, yes, they are to create spaces.. I'm not exactly sure why we want more spaces, when braces are to eliminate spaces, but i think it's because some teeth may not be where they need to be in order for the braces to work..
Secondly, i didn't notice my teeth "getting worse" .. Honestly, i didn't notice anything, except pain, because they dont make a HUGE difference.. Do you mean you are noticing pain .?
Because thats perfectly normal.. Just take an asprin..
Third, yes, if you are concerned, you should most deffinetly call your ortho.. Whenever you have a concern with your braces, or anything, call him right away..

What do you mean worse.? They probably feel worse, because the elastic bands are putting pressure on your teeth to make space and push them a teensy bit apart.. Don't worry, 3 weeks is about how long I had to have mine in too.. It's so annoying though, and careful while you chew your food.. They might fall out if you are careless, haha.. You will feel pressure and slight pain the longer the spacers are in.. Before you know it, tho, they'll take them out and the pressure will be gone! Good luck hun.. xxHealth Question & Answer
Spacers create the space and may affect the positioning of your other teeth........however this is perfectly normal.. I had spacers too.. You have to keep them in for a while (3 weeks sounds right) and t could be painful (keep some Tylenol nearby).. The spacers allow for the brackets to be placed properly.. The braces will then "fix" your teeth.. Just hang in there, and they'll be off before you know it and you'll have a beautiful smile.. Best of luckHealth Question & Answer
I had spacers forever long and when they finally took them out they were DISGUSTING.. They had gum and nasty foods in them..

I had my spacers in for 2 months! It does hurt a little, but when you get the braces on, the brackets go in the space it makes, so it does move them..Health Question & Answer
yes, they're gonna make your teeth placement "worse", because in order to correctly situate your teeth, they need more space.. So yes, momentarily it may look worse..Health Question & Answer
yes they r supposed to make room for this piece of metal tht goes on ur back tooth tht holds the bracket for ur braces together and nope thts like perfect time!(it depends on ur mouth too)Health Question & Answer
