Answers:
Firstly, how long has it been since your extraction.?

Secondly, is it from the upper or lower jaw that it's not clotting.?

Do you have pain.?

Is it still bleeding.?

Can you see an 'empty' 'dry' socket.?

It can take anywhere up to 48 hours for a clot to form, (usually a lot less for the lower jaw- but can be longer for the upper jaw due to gravity!)
If it keeps falling out, from the top jaw- I had that problem! Alot.. I had a rather large socket due to an abscess and broken at the gum line tooth- which was removed, and it took 24 hours at least for it to start clotting.. It would clot, but they'd fall out as it was such a large socket.. I explained to the dentist when I went for my third extraction the following week, and he told me it was normal- overly large socket, and gravity does that sometimes..
He also told me that you have less - quite a minimal chance of attaining 'dry socket' as the blood flow to the area is constant- being on the upper jaw..

Best thing to do, is lie down- with your head ELEVATED (two pillows should do the trick), try and have a rest.... If it's not staying in place due to 'gravity'- it should help it heal up.. This is what I did over night, and it stopped falling the next morning..

It's okay though! No stress.. If it's more than 72 hours though, I'd recommend going to visit your dentist again.. It's possible, if it's over 72 hours that you might be developing dry socket..Health Question & Answer

The main thing you need to do is keep firm pressure (w/ the gauze they gave you) on the extraction sites.. It helps to put a little water on the gauze first, because sometimes dry gauze will remove the clots when they are pulled out..

If you don't have gauze, you can also try using a tea bag..

If no tea bag, kleenex, paper towel, or any other soft compress should work..

You should keep the gauze in for about 30 minutes, and if it is still bleeding after that, keep it in longer..

also, don't do anything physical, don't drink anything through a straw, don't spit out, or smoke..

Depending on how difficult the extractions were, you may just take more time to heal (also if you are on blood thinners or other medications).. If it oozes even the next day that is not uncommon..Health Question & Answer
