Extractions & partial dentures?!

Question: Extractions & partial dentures.?
I've recently had all of my upper right side molars extracted, I'm still healing from this, and next week i will be going in for another extraction, all of my upper left side molars will be extracted, the dentist has already told me i will be getting a partial denture after this because obviously i have now way to chew anything, other than with front teeth, which does not work well..

I've not had any impressions done, so i was wondering approximately how long after extraction do people usually get fitted for dentures.? i'm assuming i'm not getting immediate dentures,

and of course i will be asking the dentist himself when i go in for the second extraction, just curious right nowHealth Question & Answer

It takes about 6 months for extraction sites to fully heal; on the other hand, when the posterior teeth are removed prior to making a partial, it is unlikely that they will wait that long because like you said, it is probably very difficult to chew anything..

Sometimes they will make a temporary partial to wear shortly after the teeth are removed, until about 6 months, when your ridges are fully healed.. Then they will make the permanent partials.. If they do this, they can take the impressions anytime after about a week or so after the extractions; depending on how the extractions go and how you are healing..

The longer they wait the better, because if they take the impressions before your ridges are fully healed, they will change under the partial which will affect the fit of the partial..

To answer your question however, they will probably wait at least a couple weeks, maybe longer depending on how you are tolerating it..

If the patient is doing ok, I'll normally wait longer.. If the patient is not doing too well, we'll take the impressions sooner..Health Question & Answer

i think extraction isnt the proper option, sometimes we ues roots (specially in molar area) to support partial dentue (called over denture), this helps a lot for stabilizing the denture and preserve the jaw bones from going resorption

this is how partial overdenture works, and u can t get immediate denture after extraction (i dont recommend extractions), then can be modified in 2-3 monthsHealth Question & Answer
