ive asked like a million retainer questions, but here goes.. i wear top and bottom clear retainers (like invisalign) and the edge is long and curls out in some places, like behind my top left molars.. can i trim them and with what.? what precautions should i take.? thank you much..Health Question & Answer

it pricks your gums and cheeks right.? i wouldent trim them.. i would wait to see the dentist them ask him.. but for now just put some wax that you use for braces on the tips.. should soften it up

i think if they are uncomfortable and not that shape for a reason then theres no harm in cutting them i would make sure there are no sharp edges though because that will really make your mouth sore and also they are there to keep your teeth from moving back out of place so cutting off the stray edges wont hurt at all i would imagine.. You can always go to your authodontist and get a new mould fitted too my sister lost hers about 5 times and they just made her new ones..Health Question & Answer

also, where did you GET your retainer, from a Cracker Jack box.? If not, take the question back to the dentist where you got them..

If you've had to ask 3 times for a good answer you'd probably be better off calling the dentist /orthodontist who fitted you in the first place..
Edit: I agree with ITguy...... "If you break it, you'll have to pay hundreds to fix it.." If they trim it for you then they are resposible to replace it if it breaks in their care..Health Question & Answer

you should never cut or trim your retainers yourself! you might mess thm up and also they're so expensive and it's a risk.. take them to your orthodontist or your dentist.. they will trim them with high speed hand pieces and do it professionally.. don't mess with them!

I would deffinently have your orthodontist do it, If you damage it they are pretty expensive to repair or replace.. But if you must i would use sand paper or something to smooth it out.. I do not advise doing that though..Health Question & Answer

I am not an orthodontist or dentist.. But may I sugest to go to YOUR orthodontist and have them trim it for you.? Because I know that at my ortho.. they do that for you.. So that you dont have to worry about messing it up..Health Question & Answer
