Nah, there are plenty of dentists with bad teeth - though the majority have nice teeth since I think dental school makes you extra meticulous with oral hygiene! They definitely don't ask you about how many fillings you have or anything like that..
The application and interview are the most important things - you need to show in your application that you're committed to studying dentistry, so doing some work shadowing now is a good idea.. It also gives you something to talk about - you can tell them about which treatments and procedures you've seen done, and how you've watched good dentist-patient interaction etc.. For the interview you also need some basic dental knowledge eg the structure of a tooth, use of fluoride, decay process and so on..
