Question: In a couple of weeks I'AM getting a herbst and an expander is it hard to talk, chew, brush your teeth.?
How long will it take to be put on.? do they give me any special toothbrushes or toothpaste.? Can i eat ice cream, bubble gum, slushies, ice blocks, caramel flavoured food or lollie pops.? Has anyone got exactly what i have which is herbst, bottom braces and top expander.? Dose it look like you have stuffed your mouth with food.? How lond do you think i will need all this for.? After expander and herbst come out i have top braces.. dose it hurt to get all this on.? how many spacers do i need.?

well when i got my braces on, i got a jaw expander on at the same time.. with a jaw expander, you talk funny for awhile but u get use to it.. its hard to swallow ur food.. while u swallow ur food, it goes all the way over the expander, so its kinda weird..
the herbst appliance.. i am getting one.. i only need it for 6 months.. usually with a herbst appliance u need it on for 6-12 months.. it mostly goes on ur bottom teeth back by ur molars and there is this bar that goes up to the top.. u dont notice it unless u show someone.. u mouth will be open and u cant move ur bottom jaw from side to side.. ur back teeth wont touch cuz it pushes ur bottom jaw forward causing ur upper jaw to move up for awhile.. it can be hard to talk.. some people are different.. your jaw will be sore.. it will take a week to get use to.. the first week is very painful and hard.. but dont worry, the week will be over before you know it..?Health Question & Answer
