After the braces are taken off do you have to wear the retainer permanetly like for the rest of your life?!

They would prefer if you wear it for the rest of your life but it's not necessary.. For the first year you should wear it 24/7 (with some exceptions of course) but after that you don't have to wear it as much.. After the first year you can just wear it while you're sleeping.. You can cut down the time you wear it until you just don't wear it at all.. I know a person who's 35 who still wears hers just because it's comfortable and doesn't really hinder her in her everyday life.. I just got my braces taken off and my orthodontist gave me two clear retainers to wear at night time only.. The reason for this is because after years of your teeth being moved around they are loose and can lose their formation very easily.. Some retainers are meant to be there permanently.. I had a bar cemented behind my bottom teeth, and my orthodontist told me that even if I had it removed in 10 years, it's likely my teeth would slowly shift back, so he recommended keeping it in forever, supposedly because the bottom teeth aren't prone to stay in the same place.. no......but you do have to wear them for a long time.. i didnt wear my bottom ones and it screwed everything up........and i wore my top ones and my top teeth are fine......so yeah def.. keep those bitches in as long as you can*........
