The first thing they'll do is put you in a chair and get you comfortable, and place a "bib" around you.. They'll place a long Q-tip with local anesthetic on your gum, and then they'll give you an injection to numb the tooth.. If they do this slowly it won't hurt much but if they go fast it can really burn; some places in your mouth are more sensitive to these injections than others - the worst place is the two front teeth.. When you're numb they'll put a bright light on your mouth and get you to open wide.. They'll drill the cavity area out to get all the decay.. They'll place the filling, pressing it into place, and depending on the location, will make sure it fits right with your other teeth.. You're smart to take care of your teeth.. Sometimes going to a dentist isn't fun but it's better than having rotted teeth, bad breath, and needing teeth pulled so you can wear dentures..Health Question & Answer

They'll first freeze your mouth with an injection of lidocaine, which is the local anaesthetic that dentists use (novacaine was phased out decades ago contrary to popular belief) I'm not going to lie, that part does hurt, but it's bearable.. After that he'll put some clips in your mouth and put some a rubber sheet of dental dam in to isolate the tooth from the rest of the mouth and prevent debris and saliva from getting in/on the tooth.. He will then use a diamond tipped drill to remove the decayed part of your tooth, which can be uncomfortable but not painful thanks to the lidocaine.. He'll then fill it and shape the filling, then you're done.. It's a pretty standard and painless procedure but can be uncomfortable for some people.. If you're worried about discomfort or pain you can ask the dentist for conscious sedation, in which they give you a sedative such as zaleplon, ativan or triazolam.. Such drugs will make you relaxed and maybe kinda dopey but you'll still be awake.. Otherwise you can request nitrous oxide (aka laughing gas), this will make you feel really weird but again you'll be awake, relaxed and less aware of what's going on around you..Health Question & Answer

It's fairly simple.. If the one filling is small does your dentist do air abrasion.. As long as you have no existing filling and the decay isn't deep.. They can do the filling without anesthetic.. It's a powdery solution it's like sand blasting the decay out of the tooth.. and then they fill it.. If they do have to do anesthetic they place topical anesthetic and then give you a shot to numb the tooth.. Make sure they are doing a white filling (composite) Not a silver filling.. Fillings are routine and always better to catch early.. The earlier its found they are able to take less natural tooth away hopefully preventing needing a crn in the future.. good luckHealth Question & Answer

It is definitely not as bad as you are thinking it is.. The first time I had to get a feeling I was freaking out.. I can't stand pain.. People said it was the worst things ever, and trust me it is not.. The worst parts is the shot, and it is just a prick........not bad at all.. I even got some small filling without numbing because they were so small it wasn't needed.. And it didn't hurt at all..Trust me if I can handle it I am sure you can.. As long as you have a good Dr..lol Good Luck!Health Question & Answer

it just feels like a little pinch when you get numbed and the tool that fixes your cavity sounds really loud and they put this rubber thing over your mouth called a raincoat.. and if you are really scared,or a sphico the put you to sleep with this stuff called gasHealth Question & Answer
