Wisdom teeth extraction -- without going under???!

Question: Wisdom teeth extraction -- without going under.?.?.?
hello, hey, has anyone had their wisdom teeth pulled without being completely put under.? I am scheduled to have mine done with only numbing shots; from experience, can anyone tell me if it is awful being awake for the procedure.? I realize that all people precieve things like this differently but am just wondering what the general opinion on the matter is; also, recovery time.? Pain afterward.? thanks all :)Health Question & Answer

i had my wisdom teeth pulled out with just numbing.. I was given pain relief for the first day and advised to gently rinse with a salt water rinse.... there was a little swelling in my cheeks and some pain...... cold pack came in handy.. The part that I thought was hardest was the sound...... but then again I dont like any of the sounds when going to the dentist!

The next day the pain was minimal...... no pain after 48 hrs or so.. swelling was also about 48 hrs...... underneathof the eyes was a little blackened, but no pain there..

Good luck!Health Question & Answer

I'm lucky because I don't have any wisdom teeth, but I did have my molar pulled when I was younger.. I'm really nervous about dentists and start crying as soon as I walk into the waiting room for a check up, so first my dentist prescribed tranquilizers for me.. Then she gave me orajel so she could put the needle in, then she gave me 3 shots of novicaine.. I didn't feel anything except a little bit of pressure.. Of course, I was so drugged that apparently I was screaming the whole time without noticing it so eventually they gave me the gas just to get me to shut up.. I think you'll be okay.. It seems like everyone is getting their wisdom teeth pulled this summer..Health Question & Answer

My wisdom teeth were impacted and I'm a wimp so I had to go under.. But from the stories I heard about the procedure, I'm glad I wasn't awake to see it..

Afterwards there is a lot of pain & swelling in the cheeks.. Your doctor should prescribe a painkiller and recommend you use ice on your cheeks.. When I took the painkiller, I felt nothing.. Sleeping was a challenge though.. Despite it all, I was eating mashed potatoes and jello in two days and chewing small cut solids within a week..Health Question & Answer

I had mine out about 18 year ago with just the shots to numb the pain.. I did very well.. You will feel some pressure, but that should be all.. I had to have someone drive me home, and I had pain medication for a few days, but nothing major..
Oh yes, mine were impacted also.. There was a bit of swelling, and some uncontrolled drooling.. My kids said that i looked like my Aunt Mary, who always had a wad to chewing tobacco in her cheek..Health Question & Answer

i was highly sedated for mine,,,not completely out.. it wasnt that bad.. afterwards i was given pain meds and antibiotics just in case.. it wasnt that bad.. recovery time was a day or so,,that is really based on how well you LISTEN to the aftercare and do what they tell you.. i found that ice packs on my face were the best relief..Health Question & Answer
