Doesnt hurt much at first, just later, especially when you have to have them adjusted.. Plus, I have a very small mouth, so when I got mine on, they stretched my lips WAY past where nature intended :p So my lips were chapped really, really bad for about 4 days..

Food to stay away from: hard candy (esp.. if you have the clear braces), sandwiches (the bread gets all in your braces and it looks nasty!); cant bite into apples, etc......Gosh, it's been 20 years since I first got them so now I cant remember, lol.. :)Health Question & Answer

it really isn't that bad-some discomfort, and getting used to in the beginning, but no ongoing pain.. it will hurt for a day or two after they are tighted (maybe mnthly.?), but really not a big deal.. the doc will tell you what to stay away from-sticky and gummy stuff and food that sticks in your teeth like popcorn.. You can eat popcorn, but make sure you have a toothbrush with you! The gummy stuff can damage the braces and pull them off, so don't eat it.. The more you listen to the doc, the faster the braces will work and the sooner they'll come off..

braces were the best thing that ever happened to me.. i have a beautiful smile and every second was worth it.. good luck!Health Question & Answer

I wore braces for 25 months....it didnt hurt when they put them on, but the next couple of days they were sore....
I'd stay away from any food that was really hard or tough, but you can eat things like apples, as long as they are sliced....
your orthodontist will probably give you a list of things to stay away from....
also, i wouldn't eat small, twisted pretzels, or ice......soft preztels and even pretzel sticks are okay, but the twisted ones can break your brackets......
it shouldn't hurt too bad to eat anything after a few days..
just take some tylenol or something to help with the pain..
hope i helped!! =]Health Question & Answer

It doesn't hurt when they put them on, but for the first couple days/first week your teeth will be sore.. Don't bite into hard candy or anything else really crunchy.. It won't always hurt to eat hard food, but it's not good for your braces.. Try breaking off pieces of chips and other hard food and putting them into your mouth instead of biting directly into them.. The pain is definitely the worst the first week, and your teeth will also be sore for about a day after each tightening.. You'll get used to them quickly......they really aren't a big deal! Hope this helped..Health Question & Answer

The process of getting them on (wires and brackets attached) doesn't hurt.. It's after that process that it start to feel sore.. Its pretty sore, and I won't lie you can eat hard food for about 5 days but it gets better don't worry! It doesn't hurt the whole time.. Just when you first get them and a little after tightening..

Foods to stay away from: Corn on the Cob, Whole Apples, Laffy or any taffy, and most caramels.. The hard ones are fine..

Best for the first few days: soup, smoothies, ice cream, yogurt, beans, shredded beef, and mashed potatoes.. I hope this helps.. :) It'll be great!Health Question & Answer

it doesnt hurt to get them
but your teeth are a little sore for like 3-4 days afterwards

as for foods
when i first got them i ate a lot of mac and cheese, soup, and ice cream
after about half a week, though, i had moved on to harder foods again
i've had them for about six months and i can pretty much eat anything i want
the one annoying thing though is getting food out of them after you eat......ughHealth Question & Answer

Nope.. It does not hurt at all.. Maybe a little sore later from the Brackets on your teeth.. But it goes away in a little bit.. No worries! :]
Stay away from these following foods:
Popcorn: Can get stuck in Braces and ruin Brackets
Ice: Dont bite it or chew it..
Gum: The worst thing you can eat with braces..
Sticky Candy: Can brake your Bands and Brackets..
Caramel: Very bad..
Anything Sticky, Hard (Oh, dont bite into Apples, cut them up..) Chewy, And With Seeds.. Hope I helped!Health Question & Answer

The actual braces do not hurt......having your mouth open for an hour while he puts them on hurts like heck! lol......your jaw I mean.. The only time it ever hurt me is when you go to have them tightened every month or 2......then your mouth is a little sore for a couple days......but it was never unbearable!
STAY AWAY from apples!!! I made that mistake!! Anything really hard and crunchy like that could be bad......everything else was pretty much fair game for me!Health Question & Answer

Stay away from hard foods..

Foods to stay away from: corn on the cob, apples, popcorn, gum, anything that you have to bite into.. Don't bite into anything........cut it first..

My advice, take 2 advil 30 minutes before each appointment..

Some appointments will be easier than others..Health Question & Answer
