i got mine out this morning..all four them and they were impacted and infected.. what they did for me was show me a video of how they were going to do it and then right after that did it.. I was sooo deathly afraid, shaking, crying, the whole bit.. what they did for me was they made an incision in my gums and cut the tooth in half and took the teeth out half's at a time, but that might be just cuz they were impacted.. like i said i was so scared cuz they used anesthesia on me and i had to get an i..v.. as soon as i sat down on the chair like three nurses rushed me at once which made me start to cry even more......but they were just setting me up.. They put stickers on my ribs and chest, put oxygen up my nose, took my blood pressure, and put the i..v.. in me.. i was so scared for the i..v.. but he gave me a stress ball to squeeze and sprayed something really cold on my arm to freeze it and then put the needle right in......i didn't even know he did it lol:) Then i remember him telling me to watch a poster of fishes on the ceiling and that the fishes will start to swim.. Then i woke up.. When i did i asked the nurse "when are they going to do it," haha what a dweeb:) you don't feel anything in the surgery but be prepared, during the first few hours there is going to be a lot of blood........which is completely normal when they rip teeth out of your body:)just keep the gauze in for at least an hour and then change it as needed..I only had to change it three times..You'll also have to wash ur mouth out with salt water so u don't get an infection.. but don't rince or swoosh, it might dislodge the blood clot in the holes and cause dry socket (btw, don't worry about that, it is so easy to avoid) don't drink through a straw, don't chew within the first day or so, don't rince or swoosh anything, don't drink anything carbonated, don't smoke, and don't take ur meds (usually vicodin) without food......trust me on that one:) there is gonna be pain with the rehab, but once again, that's deffinatly normal.. just take ur meds exactly how the doctor described to you and the pain should lessen after the second day or so and keep lessoning.. Im at right now where u will be and it's really not bad.. It's milkshake and ice pack (and the second day heating pack) central:) try not to worry to much........i did and i was a mess emotionaly and actually mak'n myself sick but you'll find out for yourself.. good luck and you gotta let me know how it went see'n as how we'll be rest'n for the next couple of days lol:):)Health Question & Answer

It is absolutely normal to be anxious.. The important thing to remember is that complications rarely occur and if you follow the dentist's advice religiously, you'll heal quicker and avoid post-operative complications such as a dry socket.. If you go into the procedure too tense, you'll be overly anxious and dramatic.. Bring some of your favorite music and try to drift off to a happy place.. The single most important aspect of the experience is for you to be completely and utterly numb prior to the extractions.. I know you probably hate the thought of needles and injections, but in this case, they are your best friend.. You will likely be getting 8 injections--2 for each tooth.. I don't want to scare you, but you should be mentally prepared and not surprised.. The more the better for such a procedure.. After the injections, the dentist should give ample time for it all to kick in fully before attempting to extract.. I like to let the patient sit for 10-15 minutes before starting on the tooth i first anesthetized.. Try to relax.. Get plenty of rest and by this time tomorrow, it will all be behind you.. If you are getting sedation via pill or an IV, you have even less to worry about!Health Question & Answer

I've never gotten them out before (I probably will soon......ack) but almost all of my friends have gotten them removed, and here's the advice they had:

In most cases, the dentist will put you under general anesthesia, not just Novocaine or "laughing gas" before removing them, so the actual removal will be hard to remember and it will feel like it went by in 20 seconds.. :D

For the next few days afterward, you may experience some pain and bleeding, but you can take pain killers for that and use gause to soak up the blood, just like getting any other tooth removed.. The dentist might also prescribe some special mouth wash or have you swish some hydrogen peroxide to help remove the dead flesh..

also, you're not allowed to smoke for three days afterward, I think..

Good luck! :)Health Question & Answer

I have found that the dintest needs to numb the areas very well , some don't allow enough time or not enough deadiner, and this adds to the pain later..
some anithisia seems to work beter for some while others something else works better..
When mine were pulled they didn't use anything other than novacain shots ,I was awake the whole time..Health Question & Answer

if they put you under you have nothing to worry about..

if you choose to stay awake they will make sure you are comfortable.. most give headphones and laughing gas to help you relax..

if you are afraid voice your concerns about anything to your dentist.. they will help..

FOLLOW THE ADVICE they give after the surgery is done.. you do not want dry socket.. no straws.. no smoking.. i had to flush my stiches with a syrenge several times a day.. my sister did not pay attention and she got bad dry socket..

i had all 4 of mine removed all at once.. it went fine..Health Question & Answer

I had all four taken out at once.. My face was swollen for about a week, and I lost a couple of pounds because I couldn't eat anything but soup..
You won't feel anything when they take your teeth out, except for some pressure.. The meds that they give you might hurt your stomach.. If that happens just lower the dose.. You'll be fine, just don't make any plans for the next couple of days..Health Question & Answer

its okay....just try to be strong....the pain killer will make you go to sleep and you wont feel anything if your sleeping....it will go away in a couple of days :) dont worry :)
