What do i have to do to make sure that my Jaw surgery is covered medically?!

Question: What do i have to do to make sure that my Jaw surgery is covered medically.?
I have a bad underbite and I have been researching a little bit about the surgery and what not because i am going to start my treatment soon and i read if you have trouble eating, or talking that you can get covered for your surgery because it's not cosmetic.. I have some trouble eating and i was wondering how/ what i would have to do in order for my surgery to be covered..Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It all depends on how your policy is written.. If orthognathic surgery (that is what the procedure is called) is a covered benefit in your policy, you will get coverage..The Oral Surgeon's office should have an Insurance specialist who can help you navigate the endless red tape of insurance company policies..
If your Dental coverage denies the claim, maybe it will be covered by Medical.. The insurance person will know how best to submit the pre-estimate to get the most from your coverage.. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

i had orthognathic surgery like you're researching (i recommend it- there is some pain and discomfort and the healing time is a bit long, but the results are worth it), and unfortunately, though we tried to explain my medical need for it, it was deemed mostly as cosmetic.. i don't have the best answer, but i wish you luck and a quick recovery if you do decide to have the procedure.. you won't regret it!
