I got a root canal done about three weeks ago, yet don't have the crown in. Is there a possibility the tooth?!

Question: I got a root canal done about three weeks ago, yet don't have the crown in. Is there a possibility the tooth.?
could still be aching.?

Obviously, the pain isn't as mouth-numbing and overwhelming as before the root canal, but it's still sensitive to touch and I can't always eat cold things without feeling a shock on that tooth.

Should I go ahead and get the crown placed on it, or should I pull the tooth.?Health Question & Answer

If the root canal was done properly you shouldn't be experiencing any sensitivity. I work at a dental office and when we work on a tooth that has already had a root canal on it (building up, temporary composite filling, etc.) we don't even have to get the tooth numb. The only thing that should feel anything is the surrounding soft tissue. A crown is a much better option than extracting it. Your natural tooth is the best space maintainer, it fits your smile, etc. With an extraction you'll end up with a hole, an implant, or a bridge. All of which are more expensive than the crown. However, if it is still bothering you then you should have it looked at before you have it crowned. It might help to have a different dentist (unless you like the one that did the root canal) to look at it and give you their opinion. Basically, until you're sure that it's good to go you don't want to put something on it that will cause more problems. Good luck. Hope this helps.Health Question & Answer

You have to have the crown put over it otherwise the tooth can fall apart by becoming brittle. There's nothing inside now and you can have sensitivity until the crown is put on to protect it. I'd do the crown before extraction. That can alter your bite after you've had the tooth taken out which can lead to more issues (pain while biting, teeth moving around).Health Question & Answer

Well, pulling teeth is cheaper of course.A crown costs more, that's why dentists always suggest crowns. Both work effectively.I would make a decision soon though since the pain might get worse as time goes on and it's not safe to have the tooth unprotected for a lond period of time.Health Question & Answer

If the root canal was done correctly then you should not be feeling cold on that tooth. Get it checked before you get the crown done.Health Question & Answer
