1. Study hard and do well in school
2. Take college prep courses if you can
3. Do a few extracurricular activities (sports, clubs, cheerleading, etc.)
4. Volunteer in a dental office. Go to your dentist and ask if you can shadow him/her to be sure you really like dentistry. Many dentists will be more than willing to help an interested student.
5. Study hard and do well in college. Maybe you want to consider going to a college that has a dental school as well. I personally went to UCSD and it does not have a dental school.
6. Study and do well on the DAT (dental aptitude test). This exam is typically taken in the 3rd or 4th year of college
The extracurricular activities and good grades will show that you are a well-rounded individual. Volunteering in dentistry will tell them you are truly interested in the field and that you have put much thought into it.
