About Using My Retainer?!
Question: About Using My Retainer.?
I got my braces off in June 2007 after having them on for four years. I have a permanent retainer in the bottom that has been cemented in, and a removable one for the top. I wore the retainer all day every day (except for when eating and brushing my teeth) from June 2007 until April 2008, when I went to Greece for 9 days. I left it at home because I feared that I would lose it while abroad (not the wisest move, but what's done is done). By the time I got back I had not had the retainer in my mouth at all for 10 days, but I tried it and it still fit perfectly in my mouth. I continued to wear it every day until July of this year. At the beginning of July I went to Ocean City, MD for a week and again left the retainer at home because I didn't want to lose it and have to mess with it in the ocean. Again when I got home it fit perfectly. I wore it for another week, and then decided to try something--I went without the retainer for 2 full months. Throughout those two months I put it back in for just a few minutes to see that it still fit perfectly (and it does), and 2 months later my teeth still have not moved. Is it safe to say that I can go without my retainer for a long time.? I will see my dentist (who is also my orthodontist) for a routine cleaning in November, should I ask him about it then.? The retainer fits perfectly.Health Question & Answer

You shouldn't go without your retainer for a long period of time. Your teeth probably have shifted even if it is a little bit. It isn't good to keep switching between wearing your retainer and not wearing your retainer because after a while your bones or whatever in your teeth get weak and they wont move anymore and then you'll have to go back to being in braces again.Health Question & Answer
