Dental hygiene....I need some help?!

Question: Dental hygiene....I need some help.?
Ok, I was planning on going to a community college that has a really good dental hygiene program. I went for a visit today and I am really discouraged. I know there are very selective, but I need someone to tell me about their experience in dental hygiene. My got the required ACT score, but they like it if it's a lot higher and if your sub scores are higher. Mine aren't:( .
I was thinking that maybe I should just do dental assisting.?.?
Can somebody please give me some inside information.?.? Somebody who knows about this.

I went to a Dental Hygiene college in North Dakota. They are very selective at that school also. It is a point-based system where only the top 24 scorers get into the program. All your scores help, like you said about your ACT's and your regular Biology, Chemistry, etc. scores. You should apply to that dental hygiene program. There is always a chance that you might make it in. Don't miss out on that. I would also apply to their dental assisting program as well. It might be a little easier to get into that program - depending on the school. That way, if you don't get into hygiene, but you get into assisting, you'll be one step ahead of your hygiene classmates when you get into the hygiene program after you have completed your assisting program. Several girls did this exact thing at my college. They all did really well in hygiene after going through assisting. Good luck. It is worth it! Keep on trying!Health Question & Answer

I go to a community college for dental assisting now and I talk to our hygienists because I get my teeth cleaned by then quite a bit.

Our programs are also very very selective and they have very few each semester in fact the program expanded some even and now they're running out of room for things.

But you may want to try dental assisting first, it's going to be faster and not quite as difficult and in depth yet. It'll give you a good intro and the ability to get your foot in the door somewhere. A good number of our hygienists actually start by doing the dental assisting class.Health Question & Answer
