i grind my teeth without knowing it also in my sleep.. my dentist made a clear retainer to wear at night (you can wear it in the day too.) it has really helped. also, he said my teeth were very worn down from it... it's not good for you teeth so you should really go to a dentist about it.Health Question & Answer

I can only think of a solution for grinding at night. The previous poster is right, you will grind your teeth to nubs. Go ask a dentist; they'll talk to you about it:

Ok, this is going to sound crazy, but it's a solution that I JUST figured out.

I have suffered tremendously with TMJ for over 2 decades, and it has seriously affected my quality of life, as I am sure you can imagine.

Last week, I started putting toilet paper in both sides of my nose before I go to bed. I make sure that I can pull it out in the morning, but I put enough in so that I can't breathe through my nose.

This way, when I go to bed, my body is forced to take air through my mouth. My jaws CAN NOT close at night when I'm sleeping, so I can't possibly grind my teeth or clench down hard. My pain and suffering is almost gone. I can't believe I didn't think of this years ago.

The other night, I forgot to put the tissue in my nose, and the pain and headaches came right back because I spent the night breathing through my nose and clenching/grinding my jaws.Health Question & Answer
