This happens to A LOT of people.
I have braces and I've had them for over a year.
Don't worry yourself too much...
But the key is to try not to irritate your gums when you brush. It's hard, I know, but aim to get the toothbrush just on your teeth, because if you're trying to brush your teeth and you just brush really hard without ven paying attention to how you brush, you will have swoolen gums.
So try to not brush your gums and if it continues aask your dentist. Good luck. :)Health Question & Answer

Be sure that when you brush your teeth you also brush your gums. Many people forget to do that. Sounds like you may have eaten something hot(like pizza or toasted cheese) or sharp(like a chip) that irritated the incisive papilla. Try rinsing with warm salt water(I know it tastes terrible but it works great). You can also try rinsing with 1/2 water and 1/2 peroxide. also be an aggressive brusher. The main thing is to brush with a nice soft circular motion and remember to get around your gums.
Another thing to think about is, do you know if you are a mouth breather or not. Or have allergies. Sleeping with your mouth open, or taking certain allergy meds can dry out your gum tissue and make them irritated.
Hope this helps.Health Question & Answer

The aggressive brushing might have upset them if the bristles scraped the gums a lot. Take it easy on them for now; if you can get a really soft bristle toothbrush for times like these, maybe try using that for a couple of days. also try an anti-inflammatory like Aspirin, and salt-water rinsing to kill off any bacteria in the area. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt into a mug of warmish water, swish a mouthful at a time for thirty seconds or so, spit and repeat. Health Question & Answer
