I'm 24 years old and am about to have 1 or possibly 2 root canals.
I feel like I'm too young for my teeth to be deteriorating so badly - aren't people usually a lot older before they need root canal.?

Your teeth are not deteriorating, it has to do with the the nerve above the tooth...the reason a dentist does a root canal is because the nerve has been traumatized from an accident, has died due to infection or to prevent a painful abscess if the nerve is exposed.Health Question & Answer
After your dentist has done the procedure, ask him to give you his opinion. After all, he will be the one looking in to your mouth. He will advise a fluoride treatment or alternative cleansing method.
