Is brushing teeth necessary?!
Question: Is brushing teeth necessary.?
I have only brushed my teeth 5 times in the past 5 years and my teeth are fine. Theyre not pearly whites but theyre the same as my friends who brush twice a day. I do drink lots and lots of milk but i dont know. They seem to be fine to me, will anything bad start to happen.?Health Question & Answer

hi,
first, you can not be sure that your teeth are fine before letting a dentist check them. Pain is not everything in medicine "think about cancer, aids, diabetes, hypertension ....etc." they all run painless for few years before manifesting themselves lately.
Regarding your question: YES, something bad could most probably happen, if you continue not to brush. As described before, plaque will accumulate on your teeth and cause you either gum disease or caries. Gum disease could lead to the painless periodontal disease, which ,in turn, could cause premature loss of your teeth. (you may have it right now 40-50% of the population in the U.S. have it)
On the other hand, caries could progress very very slowly and when it arrives the nerve of the teeth pain will start . The problem: IT IS THEN TOO LATE!, since it could have progressed in almost all the teeth "molars and others"
A lot of studies have, however, described a low percentage of people, who never new what a tooth brush is, but still have their teeth healthy at the age of 80 years..these studies were done in Sri Lanka and other contries. Tell me, do you want to be as those people .?!Health Question & Answer

Generally, you brush your teeth to remove plaque which can build up on your teeth and cause gum problems. Brushing also helps remove some of the food between your teeth. If I don't brush, my teeth don't feel squeaky clean and plaque will start showing up almost immediately.
The only person I ever knew who didn't brush as long as you had green teeth. My brother.
Maybe the saliva in your mouth and the type of foods you eat are keeping your teeth in good repair. However, cavities develop inside teeth and you can't usually see them unless they are really far advanced. If you've ever had a toothache, you know what agony is.
So, I guess you are lucky.Health Question & Answer

your teeth will decay without brushing, but how fast they decay depends on how strong your teeth are.
i went through a phase when i was little and never saw a dentist, and i didn't brush my teeth for about 3 years. i went to the dentist for the first time since that phase about 1 year ago, and i've had almost every single tooth filled XD. the weird thing is, people say cavities hurt, but i never felt a thing.
so basically, unless you want to spend 6 hours getting fillings, i would recommend brushing your teeth.Health Question & Answer
