How concerned should I be?!

Question: How concerned should I be.?
So I've had my share of odd dentists... when I was about 13 my dentist gave me a filling in one of my back teeth... it was right in the middle of the tooth so over the years it started to crack from stress...

About a week ago I had a piece of taffy and the side of the tooth just slid off... no pain or anything I wouldn't have noticed had I not crunched down on it.

Anyway since that was long ago I have a new dentist... I went to get the tooth fixed.. honestly I didn't know WHAT he did to it... well besides the fact that the area was not cleaned in anyway before he did it. It wasn't but about 5 minutes total either.

Two days later and I suddenly realize that the tooth is once again missing a piece... same spot he fixed.... again no pain but I'm assuming it must have happened while I was asleep seeing as I don't remember anything being crunchy lately.

I've always been pretty good about taking care of my teeth (but every kid is BOUND to have a cavity sooner or later) and never even needed braces. so this is bugging me needless to say.

My biggest question is just shouldn't he be cleaning the place he's going to fix before applying anything to it.?

And just how common is it for dental work to just go away only two days after being put in.

I haven't even chewed gum since he fixed it either and even so like I said... haven't been crunching on anything lately.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like your dentist is crook!

If part of your fillings came off after only 2 days, it's obvious that the job is not done right. A good Dentist takes his/her time. I am not a dentist, but Yeah it should have been cleaned. It's like having a root canal treatment...if it's not properly cleaned and sealed, bacteria will seep in.

you need to go back to that dentist. no need to clean it. if it is a back tooth i would recommend a silver filling, it is not pretty but it will last a lot longer (years) then a tooth color filling. Health Question & Answer
