What is that gross stuff that sometimes comes out from behind your tongue?!

Question: What is that gross stuff that sometimes comes out from behind your tongue.?
I know this is totally disgusting to talk about, but I've always wondered what that stuff is. About twice a year, I'll clear my throat and out pops a piece of yellowish grit about the size of a grape seed from the side of the back of my tongue. Is it just food that's been stuck there for months (horrible) or is it some sort of weird solidified bacteria colony.? I feel like apologizing for even bringing it up! Anyone know.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
yes they are tonsil rocks. There is lots of info on them on the net if you want more information. Gargling with mouthwash and or saltwater helps to keep them away. If you have chronic allergies its more difficult to rid them since your tonsils act like a sponge and soak up all the phlegm in your throat and unless it is removed then they continue to get bigger. good luck and yes they are annoying but pretty normal.
