I'm getting my first crown Oct 9th - I'm TERRIFIED!?!

Question: I'm getting my first crown Oct 9th - I'm TERRIFIED!.?
I have only had 2 cavities and I'm 27 years old. But one of the fillings broke on a tooth that chipped a while back and the dentist wants to do a crown. I have never really had a bad dental experience, but I'm still scared. Do they hurt.? For how long.? EEEK! Health Question & Answer

Answers:
They don`t hurt at all. Your fillings were probably more uncomfortable then the crown will be. They file the tooth down a bit to make a comfortable place for the crown to fit. That's the worst part.Health Question & Answer

Crowns dont hurt. The process you have to go through in order that you need a crown would have been more painful.

Firstly, they file your tooth down and take lots of impressions. For this, you will probably have an injection. Then you go back 2 - 3 weeks later and have the crown fitted. This is a 5 minute job and doesnt hurt a bit. Its just a little cap they put on your tooth. You will have to do lots of biting down but again, no pain involved.

I'm 29 and I had the exact same situation. A filling cracked one of my teeth, so I had to get a crown. Crowns don't hurt at all. When they file down your tooth (so the crown will fit over it), it hurts if they don't give you enough local anesthesia (like they did with me). Getting the actual crown though is painless. So there's no need to be scared.Health Question & Answer

the thing that hurts is the injection, after that you wont feel any pain, but it will ache afterwards when the anaesthetic wears off. good luck with it xHealth Question & Answer
